September Changes, Wordpress Themes Are Coming

Tuesday, September 2nd, 2008 | Asides, Blogging with 1 Comment

The changes are coming. September also seems to be a great month for planning, particularly from a blog point of view.

One team I’m working with are integrating a number of social media services to their blog - the likes of Twitter, Blip.fm, QIK etc.

Another team I’m helping integrate their Wordpress installation with their phpBB installation while assisting them with a redesign of their current Wordpress template. In fact, at present I’m working on five new Wordpress templates for client and personal project releases, including a redesign of my original blog. That, plus a slightly modified layout for Pro Freelance Blogger.

So all this Wordpress theming and scheming that I’ve found myself in for the month of September got me thinking - why not release some of the themes I’ve been developing.

That said, I’m asking you for your input. While I’m considering releasing themes I’ve already developed, I’m looking at releasing a number of new themes and would like your input - what do you look for in a Wordpress theme. Do you prefer the magazine approach? Standard 2-column, 3-column? Plugin-heavy or no-plugins required? Additional theme functionality and options or not?

Feel free to leave a comment or let me know via email.

Intellectual Property And Copyright

Saturday, August 23rd, 2008 | Asides, Blogging with No Comments »

While I’ve been thinking of adding a ‘week in review’ of post I’ve been accumulating or marking with interest via Google Reader on a weekly basis, one post I’ll highlight for you today is this one from ProBlogger.

Intellectual Property Law Tips For Bloggers is a guest post by Mark Patterson of the Tough Money Love blog.

It looks at protecting your brand, protecting and licensing your content, the use of third party graphics and third party trademarks with the intention of boosting revenue from your blog.

Hope you enjoy your Saturday! (Or have enjoyed it!)

Back To Reality With A Bang

Wednesday, July 2nd, 2008 | Asides with No Comments »

I’ve spent the last twelve days in a relatively disconnected world working up to 20 hours a day, taking time away from work to chase a dream, one I certainly managed to catch by last weekend.

While I may well have been relatively disconnected, my pen and notebook were never too far from my side and I’m slowly piecing together the July series of blog posts.

However, my one piece of advice to cover the entire last twelve days away from the blog is this - do theatre.

As a means to escape work, as a means to discover and express yourself creatively and in a new medium (possibly a new medium), I would recommend a theatre run to anybody - whether you’re working on or off the stage.

Now, where did I put my notebook.

Switching Off For A Weekend

Friday, May 23rd, 2008 | Asides, Blogging with No Comments »

Switching off from the design work and letting the dust settle in the aftermath of Thursday’s blogging course, I’m taking off for the weekend and as reading I’m bringing with me a copy of Darren Rowse’ and Chris Garret’s (which I’ve mentioned before) new book, ‘Secrets for Blogging Your Way to a Six-Figure Income‘ which arrived in the post earlier this week. It was a relative bargain of a buy so you can’t really say no.

Provided I can find the time to read it, I’ll have some feedback on the book over the next week or two, see what all the hype is about.

In the last few months I’ve become more acquainted with the thought of taking time off for myself, away from work, away from clients, switching off the phone and getting out in the air. While I haven’t managed to sort out any kind of official holiday, taking a few days out this weekend should do me the world of good to recharge the batteries and tackle the extremely busy month of June that lies ahead.

Enjoy your weekend.

Some Summer Clothes For The Blog

Saturday, May 17th, 2008 | Asides with No Comments »

Anyone who knows me as a blogger will tell you that I’m prone to changing my blog design a lot - or at least the colour schemes anyway.

With ProFreelanceBlogger.com, things are no different. As we’ve hit the start of the summer and the start of the good weather, I’ve decided to ditch the darker colours and opt for something a little bit lighter.

Comments or questions on the new theme’s look and feel are welcome.
